Disease foundations invest in startups

Few investors are willing to climb down into the pharmaceutical industry’s valley of death. That place where so many experimental drugs go to die.

But a few local companies have had success raising money from a relatively new category of investors. The kind who will gladly endure the many risks associated with developing new drugs — for the sake of their mission.

At least three startup companies in Cleveland, Ohio recently have raised capital from disease foundations.
