Recent headlines make entrepreneurship look so easy. Cleveland seems to be gaining national attention as a good place to find attractive investment opportunities. But as many entrepreneurs know, it is the ultimate challenge to secure the necessary capital to grow his or her business. When I worked at National City Venture Capital many moons ago there was an adage I learned, “All good deals find money.”
Securing capital is a thankless, bewildering and at times unforgiving task. Perhaps, the most humbling exercise one will have endeavor in the business world. If you are successful, it is a right of passage to yet more money. And if you fail, it feels as if you have a scarlet letter stitched to your suit.
