Outside of traditional tech hubs like Silicon Valley, New York and Massachusetts, Ohio has a lot of something young companies need: active venture capitalists.
Venture capital database CB Insights looked at states and jurisdictions with the fastest growth of active VCs (outside of those major markets in Silicon Valley, New York and Massachusetts), and Ohio far outpaced them all. In fact, the number of active venture capitalists in Ohio increased 567 percent between 2009 and 2014.
To put that in perspective, the next-fastest growth occurred in Washington, D.C., where the number of active venture capitalists increased by 346 percent during that same period.
