Standing on stage, under a spotlight, Devon Williams bobbed her head and let the sound of money fill the large arena.

It wasn’t the sound of cash and coins, but the O’Jay’s “For the Love of Money.” On the last “money,” (“Money, money, money, money. Money!”) Ms. Williams turned her head toward the crowd and sang in unison. A simple and perhaps effective tactic during her four-minute sales pitch to a panel of five investors who she hoped would be willing to invest $40,000 in the music-syncing application she wants to bring to cell phones everywhere.
