3D mapping startup with ‘wicked cool math’ seeks to ride the drone wave

After a successful test run with construction companies, utilities and others, Umap Technologies is launching software that within minutes can turn photos taken by a drone or videos on a cell phone into 3D maps.
With a concept hatched in early 2014 during a game of racquetball, co-founders Matt McCann and Ben Vander Jagt raised $100,000 from Founders Factory Ltd. in July to complete the push to market. Working out of a Short North office above North High Brewing, they’re about to hire their fifth employee for business development.
