The Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals announced the 2016 recipients of Harrington Scholar-Innovator Awards, which supports physician-scientists researching drug discovery.

The awards highlight innovators from around the world regardless of institution affiliation, which creates opportunity for those whose research shows promise of advancing the standard of care, according to a news release.

The 10 scholars, who are affiliated with nine universities, each receive financial support of up to $700,000 as well as mentoring and expertise from leaders in the pharmaceutical industry that work to foster pragmatic drug development. While working with the mentors from the institute (which is part of The Harrington Project for Discovery & Development), physician-scientists and their institutions retain the intellectual property for their work.
