Akron’s young entrepreneurs fly safe with a net: 24-hour hackathon aims to spur innovation

Justin Cohen’s idea is simple: Wouldn’t it be great if there was a space where people could smash things?

Who hasn’t wanted to throw a coffee mug at a wall, Cohen argues, and a business in Akron could make money offering a safe place where people take out their frustrations.

Cohen’s idea — called Smash Zone — was one of scores of business startups pitched during the first of what will be three 24-hour hackathons at the University of Akron’s Experiential Learning Center for Entrepreneurship and Civic Engagement — or EXL Center for short.
