I had the pleasure in April of moderating a question-and-answer reception featuring New York Times best-selling author, broadcaster, publisher, advocate, philanthropist and entrepreneur Tavis Smiley. Smiley, one of TIME magazine’s “World’s 100 Most Influential People,” asked during our time together, “Are we creatures of our circumstances, or creators of our circumstances?”
The question begs us, as entrepreneurs, to take matters into our own hands — to create and develop what we see a need for (innovation and invention), and help substantiate and elevate thriving businesses in our city.
