Henry Ford Health System acquires ViewRay’s new ‘linac’ cancer therapy machine

The Henry Ford Health System in Detroit will acquire a new radiation delivery system developed by ViewRay Inc. (Nasdaq: VRAY).

The health system will test and help develop the new version of the Oakwood Village company’s MRIdian system— a product that’s expected to be important to ViewRay’s future.

The company already sells an MRI-guided radiation therapy system that uses cobalt to deliver radiation to cancer patients. However, some customers have been reluctant to install that version of the system. Thus, ViewRay developed a new version that uses a linear particle accelerator to deliver the radiation.
