Oreo launched online orders Monday for a limited-edition $20 holiday gift tin of white fudge-covered cookies– with the site run by Columbus-based Jifiti’s digital gift-giving technology in a test that could lead to gift promotions from other brands of Oreo parent Mondelez International.
It’s an unexpected customer for Jifiti, which has worked with retailers and online services already involved in direct-to-consumer sales. Oreo is sold only through distributors. It’s also a delicate balancing act for Mondelez, which historically has sold its brands including Oreo, Cadbury and Toblerone through groceries, retailers and e-commerce sites like Amazon.com.
