A fighter-jet mechanic who invented a non-skid tool mat sold out of the first 2,000 units last year and took just 10 hours to hit a crowdfunding goal testing customer desire for new designs.

The Grypmat – a rubber divided tray that uses friction to stick to both the work surface and tools – attracted more than 120 customers and sold nearly $13,000 worth in the first 24 hours of a campaign on the Kickstarter website.
