Painting shatters record for top price on Everything but the House

A painting with a winning bid of $120,400 broke the record not only for highest-priced work of art auctioned off by Everything but the House, but also the mark for most expensive item of any kind ever sold via the Cincinnati-based website.

“Landscape by the Sea,” an oil painting from the 1800s attributed to French master Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, sold for $75,000 more than the previous record for a painting auctioned on the site. The Dec. 28 sale of the Corot easily topped the $45,000 winning bid last November for a Leo Putz oil painting.
