A Columbus business accelerator last year helped launch a corporate volunteer-coordinating software nonprofit and a buy-one, give-one tampon delivery business. Today it’s open for a second round of applicants to compete for $100,000 in awards, up from a $75,000 pool in 2016.
SEA Change, or Social Enterprise Accelerator, is a free 12-week course to help entrepreneurs formulate a business plan, identify the target market and set measurable goals for both financial sustainability and the change they want to bring about in the community. It culminates with a pitch event. Nonprofits receive grants, while for-profit ventures receive equity-free awards of cash or services.
