A single ubiquitous piece of equipment in health care is the most enticing target for a disruptive technology and yet a frustrating obstacle to change: The fax machine.

Tony Matessa, director of innovation solutions at Cardinal Health Inc.’s (NYSE:CAH) software and app development division, Fuse, said he once was asked at a health IT conference how to innovate the fax machine.

“I said, ‘unplug it,’” he said at the final session of Columbus Startup Week.
