Athens biomedical freezer maker creating manufacturing jobs in Appalachian Ohio

Global Cooling Inc.’s energy-efficient freezers for hospitals and biomedical research have hit a hot streak: In the span of two months the company has landed a national distribution deal, a federal diversity designation that can boost sales and its single largest order to date.

Its Stirling Ultracold freezers are designed and built in Athens. Regional economic development agencies and investors have nurtured the company since 2009 to bring a source of high-tech and manufacturing jobs to southeast Ohio. It has 90 employees, including about 40 full-time and temporary workers on the factory floor.
