A Columbus technology company with a complex business model combining a consumer hardware product with insurance benefits (Beam Technologies Inc.) has raised $5 million from a single investor, according to a regulatory filing.
The raise follows a dramatic improvement in the company’s prospects: In early 2016 it let go two-thirds of its staff because of a delay in getting licensed as an insurer.
