A $5 million project to make Springfield’s airport a testbed for drones is in progress, and officials are looking ahead at its potential.

At the UAS Midwest conference Wednesday, officials discussed the $5 million radar technology upgrade at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport to allow for testing of unmanned aerial systems beyond the operator’s line-of-sight.
