Columbus tops at scaling up startups, according to new report

Columbus remains the top metropolitan area in the United States for young companies that quickly grow into sizable employers, and the region moved to third overall in this year’s look at growth rates, according to one of a trio of reports measuring entrepreneurial vitality by the Kauffman Foundation.

“Interestingly, the five metros with the highest levels of growth by revenue and employment do not include Silicon Valley, Boston, or New York,” said the foundation’s Growth Entrepreneurship report that was released Thursday morning.

Columbus moved up one spot from the 2016 overall ranking of business growth, with Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, ahead of it this year. (Yet another reason to grumble at Austin this week.)
