Nationwide Insurance-backed tech startup’s Columbus office will be larger than its LA headquarters

The expanding Columbus office of startup Matic Insurance Services Inc. will surpass its Los Angeles headquarters and likely will grow bigger than the 60 employees pledged, its local leader said.

Matic plans to add 50 jobs to the current staff of 10 licensed insurance agents at the office that opened about 18 months ago. Its legal chief is moving from Philadelphia and other added roles will include product development, software engineering, marketing and recruiting partner insurers.

There’s even early talk of naming Columbus the four-year-old company’s new U.S. headquarters, said Jeff Snyder, vice president and head of the office.

“The economics of Columbus are fantastic compared to LA,” Snyder told me. “It has a great insurance epicenter here, so it continued to make sense as an area we could continue to grow.
