Time magazine has named two Columbus products — a cosmetic brush and a non-slip toolbox — to its list of “50 Best Inventions of the Year.”
Tom Burden, inventor of the Grypmat toolbox, was an Air Force mechanic working on F-16 jets. He became frustrated when his tools kept sliding off the airplanes he was servicing. The Celina native realized that there was a simple solution — a non-slip rubberized tool tray — and came up with a prototype in his basement. Burden launched the Grypmat after his Kickstarter campaign was fully funded in only 10 hours.
