Ohio’s covered bridges celebrated in festivals, events spanning fall months

The history, engineering, beauty and romance of covered bridges have long made them prime destinations for travelers. Many hundreds of covered bridges once spanned the creeks and rivers of Ohio. About 125 of the bridges stand in the state today, with many of them dating to the mid- to late 19th century.

This year, one of Ohio’s top destinations to see covered bridges, Fairfield County, will launch a new Covered Bridge Festival to celebrate the venerable structures and to draw some end-of-summer visitors to the region. The free, family-friendly festival, Saturday and next Sunday, will feature live music, arts-and-crafts demonstrations and local food trucks.
