Auto insurance startup Root branching out with renter’s insurance

Auto insurance startup Root is now offering renter’s insurance.

The Columbus-based company said Thursday that policies are now available in Ohio, Utah and Missouri for as little as $6 per month. Root will expand into other states in coming months.

Auto insurance customers will be able to bundle their auto and renter’s policies for better rates.

“More than half of renters don’t have insurance that covers them and their valuables, and many that do have insurance admit they don’t know enough about what it covers,” Alex Timm, Root’s co-founder and CEO, said in a statement.
