But when 65,000 fans piled into the arena a few months ago to see the world’s greatest esports stars face off, they found Barclays transformed into a palace of cutting-edge technology.
Electronic sports, or esports, have become much bigger than the professionals who play video games for a living. Esports are a global phenomenon. Worldwide, some 380 million people attended eSports events in the past year, rooting for champions in games like Fortnight, Dota 2 and League of Legions.
