Springfield airport has become a hotbed of activity for drone testing, and companies are taking advantage


A drone capable of carrying packages, medical cargo and even human beings is the next wave in the burgeoning industry of unmanned aircraft systems. And the technology is being tested right here in the Dayton area.

In April 2019, the state of Ohio and the Air Force announced the Ohio Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center and Air Force Research Laboratory would begin testing new aviation technology at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport in Springfield.

Nearly a-year-and-a-half later, several organizations within the military, academia and the private sector have taken advantage of this potentially groundbreaking testing.
