UT virologist awarded grant to study how to regulate inflammation
A virologist at the University of Toledo is studying how a protein that activates the body’s antiviral immune system could also help control inflammation caused by virus.
With the help of a five-year, $2.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, Saurabh Chattopadhyay, a professor of medical microbiology and immunology at UT, is studying IFR3, or interferon regulatory factor 3, a key protein that activates the body’s antiviral immune system and is present in most of the body’s cells.
