CLEVELAND, Ohio — The ceremonial ribbon cutting on Wednesday that marked the completion of the northernmost section of the Towpath Trail in Cleveland seemed modest in comparison to the magnitude of the urban transformation it was meant to celebrate.
Once a dream of hikers who trespassed in the 1980s in the grimy, weed-choked industrial backyards along the Cuyahoga Valley, the northern trail section is now one of Cleveland’s leading public amenities and major civic bragging points.
