Early stage PE funds investing for societal, financial impact, including LGBTQ, refugee founders

Two new private equity funds in Columbus join an LGBTQ-focused fund to raise a combined $40 million – and already are investing in inclusive startups that provide societal as well as financial returns.

United Dream Fund I L.P. seeks to raise $25 million to invest in businesses founded by immigrants and refugees, and Ohio Impact Fund L.P. seeks to raise $5 million to invest in for-profit social enterprises.

The funds are a Columbus-based joint venture of VC firm Loud Capital LLC and Atlas Venture Partners LLC, a consultant that helps venture investors scout diverse founding teams. Regulatory filings on Sept. 24 don’t yet indicate investment amounts.
