When former Gov. John Kasich was trying to persuade his buddy Mark Kvamme to leave Silicon Valley for Ohio, one of the first calls he set up was with Steve Steinour. Back in 2012, the Huntington Bancshares Inc. CEO was himself a recent transplant to Columbus.
Kvamme was impressed that the head of a huge publicly traded bank would hop on the phone. He’d never encountered that in California.
“I was on the fence about coming here, and the governor got Steve Steinour on the phone,” Kvamme said in a 2016 interview. “That just doesn’t happen.”
