Akron’s Vigeo Gardens stakes its life on rapid growth
For farmers, perhaps more than for any other profession, it’s literally a grow-or-die world.
Akron entrepreneur Vincent Peterson is a farmer planning on the former, and there’s green aplenty at his indoor agriculture business, Vigeo Gardens, located downtown in the city’s Bounce Innovation Hub.
Like his crops of live lettuce, herbs and microgreens — some of which go from planting to store shelves and restaurant tables in less than a week — Peterson’s business took root and grew rapidly. What began in 2015 in a 50-square-foot corner of a friend’s basement has blossomed into a business that produced revenue of $1.2 million last year, Peterson said.
