GE Aviation first in the world to complete test of hybrid electric engine components in altitude conditions
GE Aviation announced at this week’s Farnborough International Airshow in England it has completed the world’s first test of new engine technology in simulated conditions.
Evendale-based GE Aviation has completed the world’s first test of a megawatt-class and multi kilovolt hybrid electric propulsion system in altitude conditions that simulate the flight of a single-aisle commercial jet. Much like hybrid electric automobiles, GE Aviation is working to supplement gas turbines in jet engines with an electric motor to increase fuel efficiency and get its engines to a goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
